URGENT: Santa Clarita Open Space and Parkland District

Why do we need an Open Space and Parkland District?
A preservation district is designed to preserve natural land from development, create more parks for community usage and to protect rare biological and geological regions.

Protection of Santa Clarita real estate's open space and public land helps to control run-away development and unnecessary growth. To date, the Santa Clarita City Council has acquired approximately 2,000 acres of land for wildlife preservation and recreation. The City of Santa Clarita would like to acquire an additional 800 acres of parkland and complete the greenbelt around the Santa Clarita Valley.

Why should Santa Clarita have an open space and parkland district?

  • Protecting open space and public land can help control traffic and prevent runaway growth.

  • Developers plan to build 60,000+ new homes just outside of the City of Santa Clarita. Acting now helps to preserve undeveloped land.

  • Studies show that well-maintained parks, trails and recreation areas increase property values.

  • Open space and parkland promotes more recreational activities to help keep our youth away from crime, drugs and gangs.

  • Preservation of open space and parkland helps ensure that future generations enjoy the same quality of life as we have today.
